Our Advent giving project this year is going toward Mennonite Central Committee Relief Kits. For more information check out this video and see MCC’s website.
Last year MCC shipped 17,514 kits to Jordan, Democratic Republic of Korea (North Korea), Ukraine, Syria, Lebanon, Haiti, and the U.S.
The kits are made of soap, shampoo, laundry soap, toothbrushes, bath towels, nail clippers and a box of adhesives, and sanitary pads.
You can contribute in the following ways:
1. Fill a full bucket or work with another household to fill a bucket
Please fill out this form by December 1st if you are interested so we can have buckets ready for you.
Bucket pickups will be December 5 or 6th, 9 am -5 pm from Brenda's front deck. Pick-up details will be sent by email.
Filled buckets can be dropped off on December 20th or January 9th also at Brenda's house.
2. Financial donations can be made by cheque (made payable to Stirling and designated “Advent” or “Christmas Eve”) or online at www.canadahelps.org (with “Advent” or “Christmas Eve” in the message box). If you wish to designate your pre-authorized donation from Kindred to “Advent”, please let Katie in the church office know in advance of the end of the month.
Relief kit contents (NEW items only)
4 large bars bath soap (leave in wrapper)
Shampoo (1 or 2 bottles, totalling more than 600 ml; place in resealable plastic bag)
4 large bars laundry soap (such as Sunlight®, Fels Naptha®, or Zote® brands)
4 adult-sized toothbrushes (in manufacturer’s packaging)
4 new bath towels (medium weight, dark or bright colours; approx. 75 cm x 150 cm)
2 wide-toothed combs (15–20 cm)
1 nail clipper (good quality)
1 box adhesive bandages (minimum 40, assorted)
Sanitary pads (THIN; 1 or 2 packages, minimum 28 pads total)
Items not accepted: Face towels/cloths, hotel/mini bar soap, full nail care kits or nail files, hair conditioner, panty liners, personal notes or family photos, child size/small toothbrushes, men’s pocket combs, travel size toothpaste, powdered laundry detergent, toothpaste (this will be added after as it needs to not be expired)
